Lightfast, non-toxic, waterproof. Selling in the UK like ice cream in the desert, this densely black ink was brought to our attention by rabid fan Nick D'Aquanno, a Spencerian aficionado from Philadelphia who treasures Blot’s Iron Gall Ink for its exceptional flow, exquisite hairlines and sharp detail. It is superb for all fine lines—flourishes, Italic, copperplate, sketching. It produces a sharp letter with excellent definition and fine thins. Nick found that the ink actually goes on grey, but transforms to a dark and pleasing black, a bit blacker than the US made iron gall ink we sent him to compare. (Turns black on most but not all paper because of the ink paper chemistry.) Iron Gall Ink fades eventually to that brown tint familiar in western manuscripts, but it is unlikely to fade in your own lifetime. Here's an opportunity to sample a medieval recipe that's getting rave reviews in Britain from lettering artists who are already repeat buyers. Wash pens in soap and water before leaving them as the ink is acidic.

Acrylic inks are the answer when you need waterproof ink or need to write on non-porous surfaces (coated envelopes, plastic, even fabric).
Here’s a brand new line from a company that has specialized in acrylic paint for decades. These 30 colors are made from pigment & are lightfast. Although some have “transparent” in their names, the ink is opaque when used in a nib as only a small concentrated line is used. Chart shows ink directly applied in bottom of each color square; top of square shows color brushed out. Also recommended for stamping & airbrush. Liquitex does not recommend them for fountain pens.
