Kemper Fluid Writer

Recommended by Cheryl Adams for writing tiny monoline caps in gouache or stretched out lines of monoline writing. The Rapidograph-style point is fed by a reservoir which you may fill with gouache, watercolor or acrylic inks. This allows you to use professional grade color in a monoline tool for fine art pieces. Available in two very small sizes. Specify small or large. Sherri Kiesel recommends the larger size when using masking fluid.

Here is a new drawing tool that you may have always wanted — a pen and brush in one. With a chisel nib carved of bamboo and brush shaped felt for a variety of strokes, you can achieve the fluidity of a wash, the boldness of expressive marks or the calligraphic crispness of a drawing pen. The hand-dipped ink reservoir will supply about a 36” line of ink. Originally designed by calligrapher Tom Norton for use with walnut drawing ink; recommended for use with any non-acrylic ink. Dveloped by Laurie Cook, is a precision made tool evolved from the standard ruling pen. Featuring a large reservoir and polished brass blades that glide easily over paper surfaces in a comfortable, water and inkproof polished handle, it performs like a pointed brush and like a variable monoline pen and is also excellent for gestural drawing. Open and close the screw for thin to thick lines; lay it partially or completely on the side for a variety of wide strokes. Experiment.

Similar in function to the Ruling Writer, the Horizon Folded Pen has thinner, sharper edges and no reservoir. We based the design on a folded pen tool Michael Sull depended on for a pointed brush look while at Hallmark. Michael found our version superior to his original and noted that “your version is so smoothly polished, it glides on paper like a dream! The gap between the two sides a perfect width to allow ample fluid flow - even with gouache and thicker inks.” Nibs fit into any standard holder.
