Tamblyn Book. F.W. Tamblyn's Home Instructor in Penmanship

As stated in the preface of the original volume, "the purpose of this book is to teach rapid, easy and practical business handwriting."  Business handwriting (covered in pages 15-80) is done with a monoline tool--no thicks and thins - and is the basis of the "copperplate style" hands. Of the 174 pages, "Artistic Writing" (pressure & release writing in a style resembling Spencerian) is taught on pages 81-114.  Engraver's Script is covered in four pages; several broad edge hands used in engrossing are also covered briefly in a page or two each. Pages 135-173 include many flourishing examples (lettering and figures such as birds) and copies of formal resolutions, memorials and diplomas. Tamblyn hired Stephen Ziller, a 1932 graduate of the Zanerian College, in 1933. They worked together for 5 years with Ziller taking over the business as Tamblyn wanted to partially retire.  This volume reminds me of the Ziller Home Study series listed in our catalog on page 18.  5.5" x 8.5", pb, spiral with handsome gold foil title.
