Calligrapher's Project Book

Written by Susanne Haines. A wonderful compilation of work from a number of fine British scribes. A 26-page, full-color “gallery” featuring work from 31 well-known contemporary calligraphers precedes 34 pages on materials and penmanship. Tools and materials and some of their problems are described in text and clear photographs. Seven alphabets are briefy presented; examples are excellent. “Projects” make up the second half; the planning stages for each project are here so that each process may be clearly understood. Among the 17 projects contributed by 11 scribes are a quotation, simple illumination, letter rubbings, a Christmas card, and logo design. Recommended. 8" x 11", 144 pp, pb.

I was surprised when the few copies of this we had at Con?uence were snapped up by calligraphers who had just come from a monoline “play” class. They saw this as a sourcebook for advanced monoline fun and graduate-level doodling. Lot of fun ideas and funny alphabets like Tinkertoy, Puff, Resistor and Confetti. 39 pp, 8.5" x 11", pb.
