These versatile mica pigments mix with any slightly-thick medium such as watercolor; gouache; paste for paste papers or varnish or glue to produce a pearlescent or metallic luster. Or, to make your own PearlEx watercolor for lettering, mix 4 parts PearlEx with one part liquid gum arabic to make a paste (which you can store in a palette). Add water as you do with gouache to get the consistency you want. If you use dry gum arabic powder, add a bit of water. Thanks to Carol Dubosch for this reliable tip which can also be found on the PearlEx website.
