The Elbow nib is designed offset to imitate the angle that one would typically achieve by using an oblique holder. Therefore, this nib should only be used with straight holder and is great for Copperplate and modern calligraphy. Fine point and medium flex. Okay for beginners.

I was excited to try these. Heard good things about them. Must just be me but I cannot get them to make hairlines. Much too stiff. I wish there were a really flexible nib like the Hunt 101 but in elbow format.

NOTE : I'm new to all this, just learning, researching, and trying to experiment with all this as I can! Mitchell Copperplate #0742F 'Elbow' Waiting on my first oblique holders to arrive, I decided to try out this 'Elbow' and see what kind of Copperplate-looking letters i could come up with. I made sure to tilt the paper and line up my arm and hold it at the correct angle as many instructions said, but it was a bit of a let down for me. It has moderate flex, medium-stiff compared to others, and holds surprisingly little ink for being a Copperplate nib meant for swells and flourishes. It seems like you would have to dip every other letter, and still aren't getting larger swells like some of the non-copperplate nibs i have already. It's not horrible, but the small collection I've already built up has several that out perform this Elbow. I'll try again with another Mitchell Copperplate in an actual Oblique when I can, but still this one is not what I am looking for. Overall : mostly underwhelming barely usable. Backup bin. 2 STARS
