Uncover the charm of handwritten envelopes in The Graceful Envelope, a celebration of the calligraphy craft. Initiated by the National Postal Museum in 1995, this workshop ignited a global passion for envelope artistry, sparking exhibitions, contests, and a calligraphic renaissance.
Inviting calligraphers to mail in their artistic envelopes addressed to The Graceful Envelope, the project witnessed an overwhelming response. Over 200 exquisitely crafted envelopes arrived from places as diverse as the United States, Mexico, South Africa, France, and Canada. This book, featuring more than 30 of these envelopes, is a testament to the beauty and creativity hidden in ordinary mail. Elegantly rendered and often intricate to decipher, these decorated letters shine a spotlight on the care and competence of the United States Postal Service, connecting people and cultures through the power of penmanship.
