Painting a Mini Minnesota Collection with Ronda Dick

Saturday, October 18, 2025
9am – 4pm

Spend the day painting a “mini Minnesota” collection that will be the perfect remembrance of your time at the conference in St. Paul. We will talk about what makes a collection of objects personal and cohesive while working out a pleasing and interesting composition. I will provide specimens of dried plant matter that I have gathered from Minnesota for you to select from. These objects may go home with you so that you will be able to finish your painting. (I mean who finishes a painting in a day??!)

Supplies:

  • Drawing pencils
  • Eraser
  • Small sharpener
  • Tape
  • Transferring paper
  • Tracing paper (8 x 10 or 11 x 14)
  • Hot Press watercolor paper (300#) – Quarter sheet Note: If you choose to use 140#, bring foam core or firm board to tape it to.
  • Brushes: Size 2 or 3 Raphael 8404 or 8408. Or similar quality. Brush must have a good point.
  • Mixing brush
  • Eye dropper
  • Small paint palette that includes: cool and warm of each of the primaries, violet, sepia
  • Porcelain plate for mixing
  • Lint free cloth or paper towels
  • Magnifying glass or glasses
  • May wish to bring small box/container to carry objects home with you.
  • Phone may be helpful to take pictures
  • Note: Not sure how the lighting will be, so if you have a portable OTT light, you may wish to bring
  • Note: I will provide plant specimens from Minnesota to work from and water containers
