Discover the Beauty of Botanical Textures with David Morrison

Tuesday and Wednesday, October 14-15, 2025
9am – 5pm

This two-day workshop emphasizes using colored pencils and watercolor to describe the surface and textures of botanical subject matter. We will focus on creating one small drawing each day. The methodology we will use is a grisaille technique to define the surface and textures. Afterward, we will apply transparent layers of watercolor pencils and colored pencils to develop the drawing.

Supplies:

  • Prismacolor Premier Pencils ( Please sharpen in advance) 3 PC941 Light Umber
    pencils
  • These are some of the other recommended colors I use: PC938 White PC916 Canary Yellow PC935 Black PC946 Dark Brown PC943 Burnt Ochre PC924 Crimson Red PC940 Sand PC947 Dark Umber PC942 Yellow Ochre PC1034 Goldenrod PC1068 French Grey 10% PC1069 French Grey 20% PC1005 Lime Peel PC1070 French Grey 30% PC1097 Moss Green PC1072 French Grey 50% PC945 Sienna Brown PC1074 French Grey 70% PC913 Spring Green PC1068 French Grey 90% PC944 Terra Cotta PC903 True Blue PC909 Grass Green PC903 Magenta PC932 Violet. Bring what colors you already have or similar colored pencils.
  • Please bring a pencil sharpener: I recommend a Staples Power Pencil Sharpener 356332, Extreme Electric, Heavy Duty, Black (21834). This is the one I have been using, and it works very well.
  • One sheet of 600 sandpaper
  • Watercolor: Your choice of watercolor, brushes and mixing palette. Bring a container for water.
  • OptiVisor Headband Magnifier or similar
  • Paper: Legion Papers will supply the Stonehenge Paper we will use in the workshop.
