Journaling Explorations by Suzie Beringer – Level: All levels welcome.

Just how does one go about creating a beautiful and interesting journal? Have you always wanted to create one but didn’t quite know how to go about it or been afraid to put a mark in that beautiful blank book? If so, this is the workshop for you! Suzie will show you step-by-step how to begin your journals with confidence, eliminating the fear of the blank page. With carefully thought out exercises, you will discover how to get jump started on the first page. Layout and design will be addressed along with capturing the essence of a photo or scene you want to re- create. Lastly, mixing images with text in an interesting way and how lettering plays a very important part in any journal.

Inspiration:

A few things to think about before the workshop. Whenever I am beginning a journal or going on a trip with a blank journal - I like to bring along a few compact items that will help spark some inspiration, normally they are printed images of quotes/poems as well as printed images/designs. (I may or may not use them, but they are readily available to me and don’t take up much space).

Ask yourself: if you were going on a trip for a week - what ‘compact’ things would you bring for inspiration? Below are a few bulleted items that I would like you to bring with you to our workshop.

  • A small object/thing that is important to you and has special meaning (maybe it needs to be a printed photo if it doesn’t fit in your luggage?)
  • Quotes and/or poems that speak to you, printed out.
  • Printed images or designs that speak to you

About the Paper:

Arches Text Wove will be the working pages of a book that we will be making at the end of the workshop. Please bring with you minimum of 12 pre-cut pieces of text wove measuring 6.5X12.75”. You can get 12 sheets from one 26X40” piece of text wove (Paper & Ink Arts sells this size). See cutting directions to the right. If you are a fast worker - please bring more cut down sheets (6.5x12.75”) of text wove.

You will also need a piece of decorative paper which should be flexible enough to wrap around the book. Note: the Once cut you should have (12) twelve 6.5 x 12.75” pieces. decorative paper should be 6.5” high and between 15-16” long.

If you have any questions about the supply list, please feel free to email me at: sumisounds@live.com I am looking forward to our time together.
