Seed Pods – Focus on Color and Texture with Catherine Watters

9am – 4pm

Explore the intricate shapes and details of seed pods. Mix rich colors to make your subject come to life. Capture the smooth, bumpy, or thorny texture using Dry brush watercolor techniques. A variety of small subjects will be available, but you are also welcome to bring your own.

Supplies:

  • Tracing paper (Canson Vidalon Translucent Vellum) 9” x 12”, 2 sheets
  • Watercolor paper (HP Arches 140#) 9” x 12”, 2 sheets
  • Tester Strips of same watercolor paper – cut into 2” x 6” strips
  • H & 3H graphite pencils
  • Divider
  • 2 Erasers: Tombo Mono Zero (round tip) & Kneaded
  • Sable brush with good point, I use Series 7 Winsor & Newton #1 & #3.
  • Brush for lifting, Princeton Dakota 6300B #2 Bright (for sale in class)
  • Palette with round wells – I use ceramic but plastic is fine
  • Lamp – portable, battery operated
  • Magnifying glass – lightweight & rimless
  • Watercolors – your preferred colors plus these essential ones:
    • Transparent Yellow – Winsor & Newton
    • Permanent Carmine – Winsor & Newton
    • Indanthrene Blue – Winsor & Newton
    • Raw Umber – Winsor & Newton
    • Perylene Maroon – Daniel Smith
    • Perylene Green – Daniel Smith
