Basic materials
Pencil #2(HB)
eraser,
mixing brush,
water containers
Sumi ink (Fueki bokuju green bottle or Moon Palace green cap recommended)
dishes or pallets (small and middle size about 10cm for wide tools)
Ruler about 12-18,
triangle ruler or T-square
pipettes
Paper 11 x 17 Charcoal or drawing paper about 30 50 sheets for exercises
(If you wish to do exercises on good paper, cut them in similar size.)
Two full sheet (40"x25.5". 120gsm) of Arches MBM paper or 4 sheets of Rives BFK white (19 x 25 ,
250gms) paper or 4 sheets of any good quality watercolor paper
2 full sheets of Canson, Fabriano or Hahnemhle black Ingres paper
1 sheet each of Gray and neutral color Ingres paper
Flat Tools Automatic pen #5 or #6
Good quality flat brushes you already have (1/2 to 3)
Your favorite calligraphy chisel nibs and holders
Monoline Tools Pencil HB and 2B (woodless graphite pencil, optional)
Any kind of felt tip marker, white china marker (or white oil crayon)
Pipettes or squeeze bottles
Pointed Brush A middle size (size 5 to 7) pointed brush and/or Pentel Color Brush
Adding colors and making background Watercolor or acrylic ink (any brand): two or three your favorite colors or colors related to your text
One or two 6 well plastic palettes
2 inexpensive soft flat brush
Assembling Your Work Pointed needle tool or tapered awl
Binder clips,
masking tape,
bone folder
Cutter knife and cutting board
