I took calligraphy classes 30 years ago and loved it Utilized it from addressing invitations, Bible dedication pages to wall art. As time went by my Schaeffer pens and nibs started deteriorating. I tried everything from new fangled pens with only 3 nibs available to several sets of felt tip markers...nothing compared to my old standards. Whatever happened to the beauty of the thick to thin line?? I gave up trying products that just didn't work for me. Then I thought why not return to the good old dip pen method? So that's how I ended up with these nibs. They aren't fancy or techie but I get the results I had hoped for.
I bought these as an upgrade from my Speedball C nibs that I have grown up using. I was getting tired of the all the small annoyances I was beginning to notice with them the more I used them (frequent blockage/clogs, blotting, difficulty to clean). Wanted to try something different and see how it compared. I know a few people who do serious calligraphy and use Brause, so I definitely wanted to see if the difference with these nibs (and other brands I also tried) was noticeable. I can definitely say I love these. Ink flows much more smoothly and seems to last longer between dips. I find myself not blotting or tearing my paper up with these, and also being able to make much crisper, smoother, and finer marks. I love how the nibs come apart and are somewhat adjustable (still learning what the purpose for that is). It makes them easy to clean/unclog and also allows for a little flexibility in how much ink can be loaded. The many sizing options are great, too! I also bought a set of Tapest nibs and found them to be very similar to these.
