The Gillott 291 is very similar to the Gillott 290, save for a few key differences. This nib slightly more durable, and will stand up to more pressure without breaking. However, a light touch is still recommended.

Produces exceptional hairlines, and is better suited actual script than the 290. Also great for touching up work created by larger pens. Catches easily and will perform best on very smooth surfaces. This nib is ideal for intermediate or advanced level calligraphers and is not recommended for beginners.
This nib is included in our Copperplate Sampler

  • Gillott 291 Pen Nib 4

I was watching a Bernie Wrightson interview on youtube and he said that this was the nib he used on his famous Frankenstein drawings. It's very fine and very sensitive. My only complaint is that it takes a while to get flowing. This is possibly due to oil on the nib that must be washed off. It's a nice nib, though, and it's definitely worth trying if you like Wrightson's work. *Employee's Note: Nibs come with a protective oil coating that needs to be removed before they will function properly.

Big fan of fine liners once again, this pen is perfect for hairlines, the bad point is to not use it so quickly, at least for my ink it will not flow as nicely if you don't give it time. Perfect for delicate objects, drawing irises or eyelashes. Slow cross hatching or lithography technique emulations.

I really want to love this nib, but it’s just so fragile. I purchased one from a hobby store and damaged it just cleaning it before use. The tines are very fine and super flimsy—like paper. But you can get some amazing hairlines out of it if you have the right touch and patience. Maybe not the best for heavy-handers, such as myself.
