The Brause 511 is a high flex nib that produces fine hairlines, small swells, and requires a gentle hand. Very similar to the Brause 513 nib in appearance and performance, save for a few key differences: The 511 is scratchier, and does not glide well on textured paper. The 511 is also more flexible than the 513, making it more suitable for intermediate and advanced calligraphers than beginners.

Excellent for drawing, tiny writing, and Spencerian. Suitable for Copperplate.
This nib is included in our Copperplate Sampler

This nib is very small and will not fit in standard holders. Try one of our adjustable holders or a crowquill holder for best results.

  • Brause 511 nib 5

This is an extremely tiny, fine nib. It uses the small Brause holder. Produces very delicate and minuscule lines. The swell is also delicate. Be wonderful for Ornamental and Spencerian writing. Due to its dainty characteristic, the point is quite sharp, and a heavy hand will cause it to catch on the paper. Probably not a good choice for handmade or rough stock. Although I am not an artist, I think it would be wonderful for drawing.

  • Great nib! 5

This #511 is a fun little nib! Swells and thin lines go effortlessly! I had to get a smaller nib holder for this and one other, the Brause 66EF.
